Elizabeth A. Gerber, age 87, of Watertown, passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at Park Terrace in Watertown.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 29 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church in Watertown with Rev. Todd Iverson officiating. Family and friends may gather at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Bread & Roses or the Watertown Food Pantry. Hafemeister Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Watertown is serving the family. Elizabeth Anna Gurtner was born on August 3, 1930 in Albany, Wisconsin, the daughter of Fred and Susanna (Katie, nee Koenitzer) Gurtner. She was a 1948 graduate of Albany High School. After graduation she was employed as a bookkeeper at the Bank of Albany and then at the Bank of Monroe. Elizabeth moved to Madison and worked as a bookkeeper at various locations, including Felly's Flowers, Klein-Dickert Glass & Paint and C.C. Collins Hardware and Lumber.
On October 16, 1955, she was united in marriage to Clyde G. Gerber at the Zwingli Lutheran Church in Monticello. Clyde preceded her in death on May 27, 2017. She had been employed as a bookkeeper at Marine Bank/Bank One. Liz was an active member of Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church in Watertown where she served on the Immanuel Women of ELCA and Altar Guild as well as taught Sunday School. She volunteered with the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Junior Lutheran Youth Group, Meals on Wheels and the Watertown Food Pantry. She loved camping trips and had a deep appreciation for the beauty and wonder of nature. She loved quilting, sewing, painting, bird watching and baking cakes. Liz found so much love and enjoyment from spending time with her family. While growing up, she was a member of the Church Choir and proudly sang while her brother played accordion at the Wilhelm Tell Festival in New Glarus.
She is survived by two children, Sharon (Greg) Austin of Janesville and Wayne (Lori) Gerber of Watertown; three grandchildren, Molly Rose of Madison; Ryan Boeder of Madison; Cassandra Gerber of St. Paul, MN and one step-grandson, Aaron Austin of Janesville; eight great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was further preceded in death by her parents as well as two brothers, Frederich Gerber, Jr. and Adolph Gerber.
