Anita was born at home in Watertown on April 16, 1935, daughter of Marie I. (Bergmann) Stark. On June 18, 1955, she married Andrew E. Schmidt at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ixonia.
Anita attended Lincoln Grade School and was a 1953 graduate of Watertown High School. Along with being a homemaker, Anita had been employed at Schweiger’s Furniture in Jefferson. She retired on November 1, 1995, after 43 years as an upholsterer.
She was a lifetime member of the Watertown Moravian Church, where she was baptized and confirmed. She also served as a Moravian Diener and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. Andrew and Anita moved to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas on May 1, 2008. While there they joined the Christ Lutheran Church and continued upholstering. They moved back to Watertown after ten years.
Anita took pride in her appearance and loved gardening, flowers, birdwatching, crafting and sewed for herself and Andy’s reupholstering projects. Anita and Andrew worked as a team. She also loved to remodel older homes they purchased. In Hot Springs Village, she loved playing cards and spending time with many friends. Anita enjoyed decorating for holidays but particularly was proud of having a Christmas tree in every room of her home.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years; Andrew E. Schmidt of Watertown, a daughter; Pamela M. (David) Boucher of Sheboygan, a son; Kevin A. (fiancée Jill) Schmidt of Watertown; two grandchildren: Andrew “Drew” R. Schmidt, Krystel (David) Gornto of St. Cloud, FL; three great-grandchildren, Lillian, Jackie and Hayden; two brothers: David (Susie) Timm of Watertown, Elton (Sue) Timm of Oconomowoc; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Anita was preceded in death by her mother, Marie, on June 6, 2003; and her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Irene Bergmann in 1999.
The family would like to thank the staff of Marquardt Health Center and Marquardt Hospice for the wonderful care they provided.
