Daniel L. Oestreich, age 68, of Watertown, passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at his home.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at twelve noon at St. Johnís Lutheran Church in Watertown with Rev. Douglas Carter officiating. Burial will take place at Pilgrimís Rest Cemetery in Lebanon. Family and friends may gather at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorials, if desired, may be directed to St. Johnís Building/Roof Fund or to the charity of oneís choice. Hafemeister Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Watertown is serving the family. Daniel Lee Oestreich was born on January 15, 1948 in Ixonia, the son of Herbert and Elda (nee Kuester) Oestreich. He was a student at St. Johnís Lutheran grade school. He graduated from Northwestern Preparatory School and Northwestern College, both in Watertown. He also attended Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon. On July 8, 1972, he married Joan Baumann at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lebanon. Dan served in the United States Army from 1972 to 1974 where he was stationed in Berlin, Germany. After serving his country, Dan went to work at Brandt Inc. in Watertown from 1974-1986. He later worked at Krones Inc. in Franklin from 1986 until his retirement in 2013 as a Purchasing Supervisor.
He was a lifelong member of St. Johnís Lutheran Church in Watertown where he served as an Elder for many years as well as a Communion Assistant and Head Usher. He was a longtime member of the Lebanon Lions where he had formerly served as President and currently as Treasurer. Dan truly loved being a Lion. He served on the Board of Directors for both the Lebanon-Clyman Mutual Insurance Company and The Lutheran Cemetery Association.
Dan is survived by his wife of 44 years, Joan Oestreich of Watertown. He was very proud of his children, Aaron (Catherine) Oestreich of Watertown; Michael (Christine Wolf) Oestreich of Sun Prairie and Rebekah Oestreich of Wauwatosa. Dan truly enjoyed his grandchildren, Zachary, Margaret, Joseph and Teagan Oestreich. He is further survived by his siblings; Richard (Gladys) Oestreich of Jackson; Margaret Dament of Neshkoro; Fred (Machelle) Oestreich of Ixonia; his mother-in-law Marjorie Baumann of Watertown, brothers-in-law, John (Jeanne) Goeglein and John (Lynn) Baumann, all of Watertown; sisters-in-law, Joyce (Howard) Gutzdorf of Watertown and Jane (Craig) Bentz of Park Falls as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Daniel was preceded in death by his mother and father; his sister Charlotte Goeglein; his brother-in-law Rev. Gerald Dament and his father-in-law Harold Baumann.
