Helen Louise Strege Grimmenga was born June 20, 1939 in Watertown, WI; and passed away October 15, 2018 in her home following a brief illness. She was the oldest child of Elmer Strege and Leona Mentink Strege.
A funeral service will be held on October 20, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Hafemeister Funeral Home in Watertown with Rev. Ray Bezanson officiating. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place at Glenview Memorial Gardens in Ixonia. Helen graduated from Watertown High School. She also attended Aurora University, UW Whitewater, and MATC where she received an associate degree. She worked for the State of Wisconsin Department of Revenue, Motor Sales Tax for many years. Helen also worked at CAC in Dane County in the food procurement section, until she moved to Watertown to establish the Jefferson County CAC.
She married Don Goers in February of 1959. Helen and Don have three children. Helen married Mike Grimmenga in April of 1982. She loved to watch the Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers, and Milwaukee Brewers. Helen also enjoyed spending her time traveling with her family, especially her parents and sister.
Helen cheated death many times during her life. A severe case of the flu in college when they sent her home to die, several cases of pneumonia, a heart attack and bacterial meningitis; but she was strong and fought to live. Her body became tired and could not fight anymore.
She was loved by many friends and relatives, but will be especially missed by her three children and their spouses, Bryan (Brenda) Goers, Bruce (Deb Hoover) Goers, Bonnie (Paul) Goers-Seeber. Her only sister and best friend, Mary (Barry) Strege Beske of Madison; brothers, Roger (Bonnie) Strege of Tennessee, Gary (Pat) Strege of Watertown; special sister-in-law, Maxine Strege. Three step-children: Dale, Marcia and Sabrina Grimmenga; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, twelve step-grandchildren, and 6 step-great-grandchildren. She is further survived by special nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Mike; mother and father; brother, Paul Strege; and a step-granddaughter.
