Allen L. Kohlhoff Sr.
Allen L. "Al" Kohlhoff, Sr., 70, of Minocqua, Portage, and Watertown. passed away on Saturday, October 20th, 2018. He passed away at his home in Minocqua, WI surrounded by his loved ones after a 4 year battle with Colorectal Cancer.
Allen was born on December 12, 1947, the son of George and Irene (Mintzlaff) Kohlhoff in Watertown, WI. He attended Zion Lutheran School in Clyman, WI and graduated from Watertown High School in 1966. He married Mary Jo Kreblin of Oconomowoc, WI on December 1, 1973 at Zion in Clyman, WI.
Allen was a lifelong farmer. He was the kind of person who couldn't leave the house without getting dirt on himself. By the time he left the house each day for work, he would have dirt on his bib overalls and face. He worked very hard and loved being able to work the land. Farming earned him the nickname of "The Corn King" from his friends in Ashland. His love of farming was evident through his many years of employment, starting in the fields seasonally as a teenager at Aunt Nellies in Clyman until the day he retired from Gumz Farms in Endeavor/Lewiston. After retirement he continued farming, but on a smaller scale with his garden plot. When he wasn't gardening, he enjoyed fishing.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jayme; his parents, George and Irene Kohlhoff; his in-laws, Lester and Josephine Kreblin; grandparents; and aunts and uncles.
Allen is survived by his wife, Mary Jo of Minocqua; children Tami Kohlhoff (Steven Stratmeyer) of Middleton, Erica (James, Jr.) Goehl of Watertown, and Allen L. "A.J." Kohlhoff, Jr. of Reedsburg, WI. He is also survived by his grandchildren Kylee Kohlhoff, Kate Gochanour, Deanne Gochanour, Kassie (Jeff) Miescher, and Liz Goehl (Harley Matson); greatgrandchildren, Andrea, Riley, and Kyle. Siblings Valerie (Max) Lilian, Ralph (Nancy) Kohlhoff, Neal (Kris) Kohlhoff, and Nancy (Dick) Basol; brothers in-law and sisters in-law, nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Hafemeister Funeral Home in Watertown, WI. A funeral service will be at Zion Lutheran Church in Clyman, WI on October 25, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation from 9:00 to the time of service. Rev. Phil Beukema of Rock of Ages Church in Minocqua, WI will be officiating. Burial will follow the service at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Clyman. A luncheon will follow at Zion.
