He joined the service in 1957, and graduated from Johnson Creek High School in 1960. He served in the Army for about three years, and came home to marry the love of his life, Karen A. Rice on May 26, 1962. Wayne was not only a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, but he was also baptized, confirmed, and married there. In addition to his membership at St. John’s, he was also a member of the American Legion Post 305 in Johnson Creek, WI. He worked as a mason in the International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers for his entire life and retired happily at the age of 57.
Through his craftsmanship and talents, he was able to be proud of the many things that he accomplished before his retirement. Wayne was an avid sportsman; he enjoyed deer hunting, small game hunting, and all types of fishing – especially when he was able to share that time with his five sons. In addition to his passions for the outdoors, he grew a beautiful garden every summer, and baked delicious desserts for his family and friends. Aside from the family that he and his wife created together, one of his greatest accomplishments could be seen a quarter of a mile up the road where he spent countless hours a year planting hundreds of trees. This was just one of the many ways that Wayne gave back to the world. Some of his greatest qualities were his ambition and desire to care for his family, take care of the things he had, and work hard for everything he got. He was a man of his word and was truly an incredible person to have known. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, especially his four-legged companion of eight years, Tillie.
Wayne will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years, Karen and his children, Wendy Keeser, Lincoln Keeser, Luke Keeser (Terry), Les Keeser (Tracey), Lon Keeser, Penny Uselman (Kenneth), and Lee Keeser (Teresa). Wayne will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Kimberly Schmidt, Zachary Schmidt (Caylee Cottrell), Logan Peot, Kyle Keeser, Mason Keeser (Sierra Crawford), Hunter Keeser (Lacy Anderson), Charlie Keeser, Brande Keeser, Eli keeser, Amanda Woods, Elizabeth Keeser, Clayton Uselman, Gwendolyn Uselman (Chase Schroeder), Tristan Keeser, Ryne Hebbe, Jordan Hebbe, Nathan Hebbe; and great grandson, Connor Woods. Along with Wayne’s wife, children and grandchildren, Wayne will also be remembered by his siblings, Carol Ann Cartwright, Carol Keeser (sister-in-law), Faye Toebe, Jerome Keeser (Betty), Daniel Keeser (Ruth), Michael Keeser (Debra), Joseph Keeser (Nancy).
Wayne was preceded in death by Wayne R. Keeser, Jr. (infant son), Fredrick and Gwendolyn (nee Schuenke) Keeser (parents), Lincoln R. Keeser (great grandson), Russel Keeser (brother), Leonard Toebe (brother-in-law), Alice Freson (mother-in-law), Harold Freson (father-in-law), Rollin Rice (father-in-law), Robert Rice (brother-in-law), and Richard Rice (brother-in-law).
The family would like to thank Aurora Medical Center and Rainbow Hospice of Jefferson County – their fine doctors and nursing staff have provided tremendous care, love, and support.
