Lester O. Rose, age 84, of Watertown, passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2015 at Marquardt Health Center with his family by his side.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at 11:00 am at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Watertown with Rev. Rodney Warnecke officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday night at Hafemeister Funeral Home in Watertown from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm and at the church on Thursday morning from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Watertown. Memorials, if desired, may be directed to St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church or the charity of one’s choice. Lester Oscar Rose was born on August 8, 1931 in the Town of Old Lebanon, the son of Herman and Alma (nee Zimdars) Rose. He attended St. John’s Lutheran School and graduated from Watertown High School in 1950. He married the former Helen M. Liechty on April 21, 1956 at Zion Lutheran Church in Clyman. Lester served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, October 25, 1951 to October 24, 1953. He worked at Lindberg’s Hevi-Duty for 36 years, retiring in 1992 as a supervisor. Lester was a long time member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Watertown. He was a member of the American Legion Post #189 of Watertown for over 60 years. Lester enjoyed bowling, fishing and hunting. He was a slow pitch softball player and pitched for the old Judge and Alice team for 20 years. Lester was a volunteer worker who worked everyday helping build the Chamberland playground at Riverside Park in Watertown until it was completed in May of 1996. He loved spending time at his Lake Cottage in Woodruff, WI with family and friends.
Lester is survived by his wife, Helen M. Rose; three sons, Allen (Christine) Rose; Calvin (Beth) Rose; Todd (Linda) Rose all of Watertown; six grandchildren, Leanne (Christopher) Seifert; Jennifer Rose; Paige (Sam) Neumueller; Clint Rose; Lauren Rose; Nathan Rose; great-grandchildren, Kiley and Braedyn Seifert as well as step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren. Lester is further survived by two brothers, Melvin (Nancy) Rose of Clinton, IA; Kenneth Rose of Hartsville, SC; brothers-in-law, Roger Schaefer; Walter “Fritz” Arends; John Liechty; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Berger and Ruth Justmann as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Alma; sisters, Gertrude (Lenhard) Zubke; Norma (Clarence) Dobrick; Lorraine Rose: Irene (Howard) Hinzmann; Pearl (Rowland) Froehlich; Helen Schaefer; brother, Lloyd “Mike” (Shirley Jones) Rose; sisters-in-law, Betty Arends; Joan Liechty as well as brothers-in-law, Jerome Justmann and Karl Berger.
