Gerald “Jerry” R. Updike, 87, of Watertown, passed away Friday, October 25, 2013 at Marquardt Health Center in Watertown.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 31st at 11 a.m. at St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church,
with the Rev. James Werner officiating. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery in Watertown.
Relatives and friends may call to pay their respects at the Hafemeister Funeral Home in Watertown on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
Memorials are suggested to the church.

Gerald Robert Updike was born in Crosby, MN on November 8, 1925, son of Justice and Jenny (Grass) Updike.
On April 26, 1946, he married Lorraine Bennin at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Watertown.
Lorraine preceded him in death on June 20, 2003.
Jerry had been employed as a painter at Thomas Industries (formerly Moe-Light) in Fort Atkinson, and at Bethesda Lutheran Home in the maintenance department. He had a very compassionate attachment to the residents during his employment at Bethesda.
Jerry was a member of St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. He enjoyed singing and attending church and was grateful for his gift of faith.
He was also a member of Turner Hall in Watertown and the Watertown Outboarders.
Jerry enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In his younger years, he enjoyed traveling, bowling, playing pool, boating, fishing, hunting with his dogs and, music and dancing.
Survivors include his three daughters, Sharon (Cy) Claas of Cupertino, CA; Wanda Updike of Watertown; Julie (Mike) Fisher of Madison; his grandchildren, James (Beatriz) Claas of Santa Clara, CA; Steven Claas of Cupertino, CA; Desiree Updike of Jefferson; two great granddaughters, Sophia Claas and Victoria Claas; a sister, Sandy (Rod) Rohrer, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Jerry was also preceded in death by his parents; two grandsons, Robert Michael Claas and Jason Michael Updike and a brother, Larry Updike.
