Watertown, WI
Service: November 2, 2019
Margaret Griep
Margaret Griep was called home to her Lord and Savior on October 25th, 2019 at the age of 85.
Margaret was born on June 12th, 1934 on her familyís farm in Clyman Wisconsin. Margaret married the love of her life, David Lee Griep on May 15th 1955. Together they built a family of 4 daughters and enjoyed 41 years of marriage before Daveís passing in 1996. Margaret worked a variety of jobs to support her family throughout her life and retired from Bee Industries in 1996 where she worked as a machinist. She was a member of the Lutheran Womenís Missionary Society and loved to travel for their conventions.
Margaret was called many things in life: daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandma and great-grandma, however her one true name to everyone who knew and loved her was GG. GG was a social butterfly and was always ready to whip out a deck of cards and bet a nickel on a game of Sheepshead. She passed on her love of card games to her family and friends and will be fondly remembered with every game of Rummy, Kings Corners, Go Fish, Golf, or any game that comes to the table. We will remember her laugh and cheeky grin that illuminated her face when she won. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly. Any of them they could indulge you with countless childhood memories of times shared including wiffle ball in the yard, four corners in the driveway, watching the Sound of Music or The Ghost of Mr. Chicken, drinking root beer floats or eating her freshly baked bread with a heavy heaping of butter. She was a regular in the stands for sports games, a chauffeur for school drop-offs and pick-ups and regularly traveled to Des Moines to visit her grandsons. Indeed she was always there and it is for this reason her passing is so heavy. Her family and friends loved her so deeply and her loss is indescribable, however we are comforted by her faith in Jesus and know that she is rejoicing in Heaven pain-free with her favorite Cubbies hat on and a smile on her face. We know she will always be with us whether itís at the card table, in the bleachers, at church or simply in our hearts.
GG is survived by her daughters Connie (Steve) Roets, Karen Griep, Kristine (John) Herzog, and Kathryn (Todd) Brennecke and nine grandchildren: Jamie (Dave) Sloan, Jennifer (Jeffrey) Schmitz, John David (Gwen) Herzog, Jesse Herzog, Jared Herzog, Alexandra Scheiber, Jacob Brennecke, Samantha Brennecke (Lachlan Barnard,) and Carly Brennecke (Elias Manchester.) She is further survived by her great-grandchildren Madyson Sloan, Elijah Sloan, William Schmitz, Kate Schmitz, Jameson Herzog and Naiyah Rain Noelani. She was preceded in death by her husband David Griep, her parents Carl and Margaret Christian, her infant sister Phyllis Christian, her sister Juanita, and her brother Ralph.
A funeral service for Margaret will be held on Saturday November 2nd at 11am at St. Johnís Lutheran Church in Watertown. Visitation will be held at the church from 9am until the time of service. Burial will immediately follow the service at the Lutheran cemetery in Watertown. Memorials in Margaretís honor may be made to Rainbow Hospice and St Johnís Lutheran church.
