Charles R. Kittel, 85, of Watertown, went to be with the Lord on November 2, 2013, surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at noon at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Watertown with Rev. James Werner officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be held at the Hustisford Cemetery. Memorials may be given to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church or the charity of one’s choice.
Relatives and friends may gather at the church on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. The Hafemeister Funeral Home of Watertown is serving the family. Online condolences may be made at www.hafemeisterfh.com.
Charles Russell Kittel was born on March 12, 1928 in Johnson Creek, the son of the late William and Laura (Sutchenschneider) Kittel. He married the former Irene (Schwartz) Kohls on November 23, 1985 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Watertown.
For many years Charlie was the co-owner and operator of Uptown Bar in Watertown. He also was the originator and drummer of the Jolly Cholly Band. The band had several successful recordings such as Dummy Doll and Squaws Along the Yukon. He played at numerous weddings, anniversaries and picnics throughout the surrounding States. Charlie enjoyed gardening and polka dancing.
He was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and a retired member of the Watertown Musicians Union 469. Charlie served in the U.S. Air Force in WWII, specifically in the South Pacific and Alaska. He was a member of Watertown VFW Post 3709.
He is survived by his wife, Irene of Watertown; a son Michael (Sherry); five daughters, Susan, Pamela, Laurie, Patti, Lisa; 16 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends and one of his beloved pets, Chassie. .
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Lori; a granddaughter in infancy; two brothers, Raymond and Arthur Kittel; four sisters: Myrtle, Violet, Evelyn, and Ruth
