Melvin M. Wagner, 86, of Watertown, passed away Tuesday morning, November 20, 2012, at Marquardt Memorial Manor in Watertown.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 24th at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Watertown, with the Rev. John Boehringer officiating. Innichement will be in Glenview Memorial Gardens in Ixonia with military rites provided by the Watertown American Legion Post #189.
Relatives and friends may call to pay their respects at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the church, the Watertown Humane Society or to the Lions Eye Bank. The Hafemeister Funeral Home of Watertown is serving the family. Melvin Martin Wagner was born in Watertown on February 28, 1926, son of John and Elda (Buss) Wagner. He attended Watertown High School until he went into the military in 1943. He spent 3½ years in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of WWII. On August 4, 1950, Mel married Rosemarie A. Storbeck in Dubuque, Iowa.

He served his apprenticeship at Riverside Electric in Watertown and then Amther Electric for two years. Mel had been employed at Dietz Electric in Milwaukee for 22 years, before he started Wagner Electric in 1976. He ran Wagner Electric for 24 years.
Mel was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and a former member of the Watertown Country Club. He was also a member of the Watertown Lions Club, serving as past president and was on various boards and committees, and was a member of the VFW, the Watertown American Legion Post #189 and the Disabled American Veterans. Mel was very active in sports. He played with the Weber Beer Traveling Team and with the Watertown Cardinals for 16 years. He was also an avid hunter, golfer and fisherman.
Survivors include his two children, Karl (Barb Butler) Wagner of Watertown and Rebecca (Jeff) Peterson of Duluth, GA; eleven grandchildren, Haley (Kara Kephart) Wagner, Ryan (fiancee, Cassandra Martin) Wagner, Chad Butler (Jen Claas), Kris Butler (Will Harrison), Nicole (Ryan) Wagner, Brandon (fiancee, Amber Wisniewski) Wagner, Lance Wagner, Savannah Wagner, Breanna Wagner, Megan Peterson and Dana Peterson; two great-grandchildren Jacob Butler and Kianna Harison; two brothers, Richard (Kathleen) Wagner of Watertown, John Jr. (Diane) Wagner of Jefferson; a sister, JoAnn (Robert) Georgen of Oconomowoc and a sister-in-law Velda Wagner of Watertown as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mel was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Rosemarie “Rosie” on October 8, 2012; a son, Bradley on December 8, 2003; and two brothers, Lester and Harris.
