Dorothy J. Spafford, age 86, of Watertown, passed away on Friday, November 22, 2019 at Marquardt Health Center in Watertown, Wisconsin.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Marquardt Health Center Chapel in Watertown with Rev. Peter Wells officiating. Burial will take place at Lutheran Cemetery in Watertown following the service. Family and friends may gather at the chapel from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Dorothy Nell Jackson was born on December 4th, 1932 in Santa Fe, New Mexico, the daughter of William and Nellie (Rowse) Jackson. She graduated from Tucumcari High School in Tucumcari, New Mexico. Dorothy was married to Avon Pittman for 17 years and had two daughters, Adrienne and Gail. She was later married to Charles Spafford for 49 years and had three sons, Walt, Donald and Andrew. Dorothy lived in many different places over the years, finally settling in Watertown in 1986. She became a permanent resident at Marquardt Health Center in early 2018, where she remained until her death.
Dorothy was an active member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, known to many as “the hat lady” because of her large collection of hats she wore to church. Her hobbies included knitting, sewing, cross stitching, and various other handcrafts. She enjoyed listening to classical music and watching musicals.
Dorothy is survived by her sons, Walt (Sharon) Spafford of Watertown and Andrew (Angela) Spafford of Greendale; brother, Don (Diane) Jackson of Albuquerque, New Mexico; grandchildren Sarah, Barbie and Alex; many great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; her Marquardt trio of John, Josie, and Mark; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Avon; her second husband Charles; her brother William “Jackie” Jackson; her sister Charlene Testa; her daughters Adrienne Pittman and Gail Kerley; her son Donald Spafford; and her grandson Jeffrey Kerley.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Marquardt Health Center or Lakeside Lutheran High School.
