Gladys J. Nesta, age 98 of Watertown, passed away on Friday November 20, 2015 at Highland House in Watertown.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at 11:00 am at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Watertown. Family and friends may gather at the church from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will take place at Glenview Memorial Gardens in Ixonia. Memorials, if desired, may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church and Rainbow Hospice. Hafemeister Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Watertown is serving the family. Gladys Jeanette Scherer was born on January 20, 1917 in Watertown the daughter of George and Elizabeth (Hirschi) Scherer. On June 13, 1936 she was married to Donald Nesta. Gladys was employed at the Eastside Meat Market in Watertown and at Marquardt Memorial Manor in the food service. Gladys was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Watertown. She was a volunteer, assisting at the American Red Cross blood bank. She was an avid reader especially of her Bible. She loved to spend time on crossword puzzles and walking to keep fit. She was a Packer fan and a true Wisconsinite, she loved the cold weather! Some of her grandchildren, because of her age, lovingly referred to her as Gladys the Great!!

Gladys is survived by two daughters; Susan (David) Redlin of Tucson, AZ., and Barbara (Donald) Kehr of Tequesta, FL, nine grandchildren; Susan Garcia, Kristin Strong, Kara Vatthauer, Donald Kehr Jr., Stephanie Kuhlmann, Raquel Coleman, Natalie Fix, Nicole Malley and Joshua Redlin, twenty-four great-grandchildren and four great-great- grandchildren, a special niece, Linda and her husband Steve Buske, two sisters-in-law Charlotte Scherer and Betty Scherer, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Donald, a granddaughter Lisa Kehr and a great-grandson Kyle Fix, six sisters; Margaret Scherer, Ruth Scherer, Josephine File, Alice Blank, Doris Eaton, Mae Jane Wilkes and by three brothers; William Scherer, John Scherer, and George Scherer Jr.
