Vernon E. Gerstner Sr.
Vernon E. Gerstner Sr., age 78, of Watertown, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday morning, December 3, 2016 at Aurora Medical Center in Summit, WI.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 9, 2016 at 11 am at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Jefferson with Rev. David Zandt officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-7 pm at the Hafemeister Funeral Home in Watertown and on Friday at the church from 10 am until the time of the service. Entombment will follow at Glenview Memorial Gardens in Ixonia. Memorials, if desired, may be made to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church or to the charity of one’s choice. Vernon Edward Gerstner was born on July 10, 1938 in Lake Mills, the son of Bernhard and Adeline (Wollin) Gerstner. He was a 1956 graduate of the Lake Mills High School. He married Marilyn Bredlow on May 7, 1960 at St John’s Lutheran Church in Johnson Creek. Vernon farmed his whole life and was employed at Farmco Co-op (Insight FS) in Jefferson where he was currently employed part-time. He was also a seasonal employee at Spangler Seed in Jefferson. Vernon was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Jefferson. Vernon served with the Fort Atkinson National Guard which was activated during the Berlin Crisis. He enjoyed working in his shop fixing and enhancing his John Deere equipment. He also enjoyed farming, landscaping, gardening, and listening to his polka music. He was a Green Bay Packer fan and enjoyed NASCAR. Vernon loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Vernon is survived by his wife Marilyn of Watertown; five children, Marlene Gerstner of Ft. Atkinson; Randal (Cindy) Gerstner of Watertown; Mardeana (Mark) Glasel of La Crosse; Marsha (Todd) Endl of Waterford; Vernon Jr. (Marsha) Gerstner of River Falls; four grandchildren: Kyle Endl, Aidan Endl, Marissa Gerstner and Connor Gerstner; four step-grandchildren, Troy Glasel, Tyler Glasel, Sabrina Cudd and Wade Cudd; a sister, Marie (Roy) Mekelburg of Watertown; sister-in-law; Betty Gerstner of Watertown as well as many nieces and nephews. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clarence (Bernadine) Gerstner Sr. and Eugene Gerstner.
