Earl J. Weihert, age 96, of Watertown, went home to Lord and is back in his sweetheart’s arms on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Marquardt Health Center in Watertown.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Watertown with Rev. Rodney Warnecke officiating. Burial, with military graveside rites, conducted by the Watertown American Legion Post #189 will at the Lutheran Cemetery in Watertown. Family and friends may gather at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to the church. Earl John Weihert was born on March 14, 1921 in Watertown, the son of John and Lydia (nee Shearer) Weihert. He was a 1941 graduate of Watertown High School. Earl served as a Sergeant in the United States Army from 1942-1946 during World War II in Alaska and the Aleutian Islands. He received a service ribbon, an Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon and the Aleutian Island Decoration of three battle stars. On June 28, 1947, he married the love of his life, Irma C. Abel, in Watertown at her parent’s home. Irma preceded him in death on August 10, 2012. Earl had been employed at the Watertown Post Office for over 32 years, retiring in January 1980. He was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Watertown. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #189. He was a member of AARP 3056 as well as an honorary member of Watertown Turners since 1946 where he served as a past president. Earl also was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers for over 50 years. Earl was a lifelong Green Bay Packer fan. He enjoyed golfing after his retirement. In his younger years, he was a caddy at the Watertown Country Club.
Earl is survived by his children, Judy (Chuck) Wesemann, Nancy (Dave) Nelson and Jack (Tina) Weihert, all of Watertown; grandchildren, Jason (Amy) Wesemann, Cory (RuthAnn) Wesemann, Craig (Melissa) Wesemann, Jenny (Chris) DaWalt, Jeremy (Sara) Wesemann, Nathan Weihert, Natalie Weihert and Garett Weihert; great-grandchildren, Calley, Cassidy, Makayla, Joshua, Caleb, Harper, Presley, Kennedy and Cooper Wesemann, Oliver Weihert and Shay DaWalt as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was further preceded in death by his parents, brother, Howard Weihert and sisters, Neva Zimmerman and Shirley Erp.
