Funeral services will be held on Dec. 27, 2014 11 a.m. at Hafemeister Funeral Home, Watertown, with Pastor Kenton Wendorf of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Grafton officiating. Visitation will be held at 10 am until time of service. Burial, with military graveside rites, will take place at Glenview Memorial Gardens in Ixonia. Memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran School scholarship fund or Camp LuWiSoMo scholarship fund.
Howard was born on October 30, 1923 in Watertown to Emil and Elna Rasmussen Herold. He married the former Florence Nell in Watertown at St. Johnís Lutheran Church on June 14, 1947. Since moving to Port Washington, he has been a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Grafton. He was a 1942 graduate of Watertown High School. Howard was a veteran of World War II, having entered the Army Air Force in February, 1943. He served as a Ball Turret Gunner on B-24s until July 1945 when he was honorably discharged after flying 50 missions. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Howard was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Victory Medal, the American Campaign Medal and the European Theater Medal with 5 Battle Stars. Upon his discharge, he became an employee of Mullenís Dairy and worked there for 35 years. He was the last door to door milk delivery man for Mullenís. After his retirement, he moved to Wautoma and was employed in maintenance at Camp LuWiSoMo, Wild Rose, for 14 years. He enjoyed stamp collecting and wood working.
Survivors include his wife Florence and 3 children: Gail (Brian) Thiede of Port Washington, Glenn (Terry) of Cedarburg and Lynn (Mark) Langenfeld of Monticello. He was also blessed with 4 grandchildren: Anne (Peter) Klein of Saukville, Jennifer Phan of Pearland, TX, Rachel Thiede of Waukesha and Holly Jordan of Durham, NC. And 3 great grandchildren: Sydney Klein, Darren and Leah Phan. Also surviving are a brother-in-law and sister-in-law Leroy and Marion Nell, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends.
