Marilyn A. Wilkes, age 94, of Watertown, passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Heritage Homes in Watertown.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Watertown with Rev. James Backus officiating. Burial will take place at Lutheran Cemetery in Watertown. Family and friends may gather at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the church, St. Mark’s Lutheran School, Heritage Homes or Rainbow Hospice. Marilyn Ann Matthews was born on May 11, 1923 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Iris (nee Lane) Matthews. She was a 1941 graduate of West High School in Waterloo, Iowa. She then attended a Business College in Waterloo. On April 27, 1946, she was united in marriage to Laverne William Wilkes at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Watertown. Laverne preceded her in death on November 23, 2014. Marilyn had been employed at Herro’s Tot n’ Teen and St. Mary’s Hospital and Watertown Memorial Hospital, from which she retired.
She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Watertown where she frequently volunteered. She also was a member of the Watertown Historical Society, Summer Girls Club, Friends of the Watertown Library as well as the Saturday Club, where she served as a former president.
Marilyn is survived by her children, Robert (Nancy) Wilkes of Hales Corners, Linda Stark of Watertown, Dan (Jackie) Wilkes of Bradenton, FL and Laura (Jon) McGarvey of Oconomowoc; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jason) Lawrence, Adam (Jamie) Stark, Jonathan Stark, Harrison Wilkes, Alexis Wilkes, Caitlin McGarvey, Megan McGarvey and Maureen McGarvey; great-grandchildren, Madison and Jack Lawrence; her Iowa cousins, Nancy Broadie, Barb (Dave) Young and Deb (Rick) Black as well as other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Douglas L. Matthews; son-in-law, Gary Stark as well as grandson, Robin Wilkes.
