Gordon “Gordy” E. Milbrath, 75, of Watertown, passed away from a lingering illness at his home Thursday evening, December 20, 2012, surrounded by his loving family.
The memorial service will be held on Friday, December 28th at 6 p.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Watertown with the Rev. Stephen Helwig officiating.
Relatives and friends may call to pay their respects at the church on Friday from 3 p.m. until the time of the service.
Gordon Earl was born in Watertown on July 9, 1937 to Alfred and Helen (Buske) Milbrath. He was a 1955 graduate of Watertown High School. He then joined the United States Navy Seabees. On November 4, 1967, he married Janice Hingiss at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Watertown.
Gordy had been employed at the former Kroger Grocery Store and at Piggly Wiggly in Watertown for 36 years, until his retirement in 1998.
He was a life long member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Watertown, serving as an Elder and was on the Stewardship Board. He was also a member of the Wethonkitha Club in Watertown.
Gordy’s greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed playing Sheepshead, coached girl’s softball and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
Survivors include his wife, Jan of Watertown; his three children, Jennelle (Brad) DeNoyer of Sun Prairie; Troy (Shannon) Milbrath of Watertown; Carrie (Rev. Stephen) Helwig of Omaha, NE; his 13 grandchildren, Olivia, Mason, Will, Ella DeNoyer; Alexander, Jackson, Emerson Milbrath and Hannah, Ben, Emma, Nathan, Sophia and James Paul Helwig; a sister, Phyllis (Robert) Brumm of Marietta, Georgia; his mother-in-law, Ruth Hingiss of Florida, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Gordy was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Wilbert and Lloyd (Gladys) Milbrath and his father-in-law, William Hingiss.
